Picture Perfect: How to get Radiant Looking Skin in Time for Your Big Day

Weddings are joyful events. They are a statement of your love to your future spouse, a celebration and a bonding moment for two families coming together.

For most, the bride becomes the centrepiece of the wedding. The collective “oohs” and “ahhs” as you make your way down the aisle, as your friends and family take in everything from your dress to your hair can be overwhelming for the most confident bride.

Radiant looking skin is hard to achieve overnight. Here are our top tips for getting picture-perfect for your big day:

Find time to relax

Stress has a lot to answer for! It profoundly affects our skin; it can weaken our immune system and lead to sleepless nights. There is nothing worse for a bride than not only feeling like a zombie but also showcasing the classic panda-eye on the eve of your wedding day. Fuelled by acne-breakouts and grey tinged skin, there’s nothing less desirable!

So, now you have your wedding date fixed, get ahead of the game. Find what makes you chill out – is it Yoga, meditation, running, a HIIT workout? Whatever recharges you, and ultimately allows you to relax, build it into your routine now.

Adopt a daily skincare routine

Let’s get down to basics. The best way to keep your skin fresh and glowing is to make sure you have clean skin. Simple.

Having healthy, clear looking skin for your big day is a must for most brides. Here’s our guide to getting the most out of your skincare routine:

Removing excess dirt, debris and old makeup should be part of your daily skincare routine, day and night. Using a gentle cleanser will do all the hard work for you. It’s worth bearing in mind that different cleansers work for different people. So doing a little bit of research to determine which cleanser best suits your skin type is an excellent place to start.

Skin texture can be a dealbreaker when it comes to getting ready for your big day. Unwanted blemishes, bumps and cracks can all add to rough, uneven patches on your skin. Incorporating exfoliation into your skincare routine will help make your skin smooth and blemish-free.

There are two types of exfoliators available:

  • Physical exfoliators are usually gels or creams with little beads in that scrub away dead skin cells and unclog pores to improve your skin’s texture
  • Chemical exfoliators are acid-enriched liquids that peel away dry skin and help refine your skin’s texture

Physical exfoliants are generally suitable for all skin types, but those with delicate, sensitive skin should avoid chemical exfoliants.

Face Masks

If you want to pull out all the stops, applying a regular face mask will do wonders for your skin. Often including cooling and calming ingredients, face masks are great at relieving puffy and sore skin.

From charcoal to vitamin C face masks, you can have glowing skin in time for your big day. De-clogging your pores, reducing blackheads and rebalancing oils in your skin has never been easier.

Choosing the right moisturiser for your skin type can help you achieve instant glowing, dewy skin. Locking in much-needed hydration to your skin barrier, your skin cells will thank you later too with the collagen-boosting benefits of the moisturiser.

Our “Good Night” deep nourishing sleep mask will gently restore collagen as you sleep. For those with dry, damaged, scaly skin, our “Tranquility” soothing cream can calm angry skin as part of your daily routine.

Put down the wine

Winding down at the end of a long day with your favourite tipple may sound like the dream, but your skin will not be reaping the benefits. Diminishing radiant skin, breaking down your capillaries and a renowned dehydrator, you need to put the wine down!

Swapping the vino for an antioxidant-rich smoothie will turn the tide on your dehydrated skin and acne flare-ups! Including blueberries, strawberries, spinach, oranges and the like into your day will give your skin the fighting chance it needs to stimulate your lymphatic system and wave goodbye to puffy skin.

Avoid turning the heat up

Hot, steamy showers and baths are drying your skin out! Try and stick to lukewarm bathing to help keep essential oils and nutrients locked into your skin.

It’s not all doom and gloom in the shower! Using a gentle, sulfate-free cleanser will help provide softer, smoother skin as you bathe. Patting your skin down and then applying a lotion within minutes will help lock in moisture before it evaporates.

Grab the loofah!

Anything that helps rev up the flow of lymph and encourages toxins to leave your system is a must-have purchase! So, grab your loofah or body brush to increase your blood circulation and exfoliate your skin.

Your lymph relies on muscle movement, so if you aren’t particularly active, then this one’s for you! Incorporating dry brushing into your daily skincare routine will help rid your body of waste, and give you healthy, glowing skin as a result. Finish off with a moisturiser post-shower, and you’ll be radiant in no time.

Combat keratin buildup

Despite its common appearance, there’s little information on what triggers the unsightly red bumps that can appear on the back of your arms. Known as keratosis pilaris, excess keratin builds up at the site of your hair follicles, resulting in angry red patches that no bride wants to see on their wedding day!

From cold temperatures, food allergies and stress, keratosis pilaris has been known to rear its ugly head. Although there is no cure for this condition, there are some things you can do to keep the dreaded KP at bay like specialist exfoliating products. Failing that, introducing a humidifier into your bedroom will increase moisture levels into the air to help combat any KP causing triggers.

Already feeling the stress of your big day? Taking a moment each day to focus on your skincare routine will have you picture perfect in no time. What are you waiting for?
