Ivy is a well-known extract that helps boost blood circulation when applied topically to the skin. The result for some is that you can see a slight blush to the area of application; this is simply blood flowing to the area, which is the desired effect.
Ivy is also known to tone and tighten the skin as well as helping to remove the waste from the body. It is a key ingredient in our Body Makeover Skin Firming Body Gel & Cellulite Treatment.
Horse Chestnut extract is a key component of both our Nature’s Miracle Soothing Leg & Varicose Vein Treatment and our Body Makeover Skin firming Body Gel and Cellulite Treatment.
Horse Chestnut helps maintain strong venous walls which in turn keeps the pressure within the veins stronger and keeps the blood flowing steadily.
With regular application of horse chestnut extract, you are ensuring that your veins are as strong as they can be and reducing the chances of the venous walls being pushed outwards and thus causing varicose veins.
When it comes to cellulite, horse chestnut is extremely effective at lessening the appearance of dimpled skin. It contains Aescin, which helps decrease the size of the pores on the capillary walls and subsequently helps increase circulation in the skin. It also tones the capillaries beneath the skin and can lessen the visibility of cellulite.
Grapeseed extracts are filled with flavonoids and linoleic acid as well as other very potent antioxidant compounds. In our Nature’s Miracle Soothing Leg and Varicose Vein Treatment, this active ingredient helps to reduce leakage in veins and swelling in the legs. It also gives the skin a smoother texture by increasing the strength of the connective tissues and collagen fibres beneath the skin.
For some people it gives a slight tingling sensation when applied to the skin as the grapeseed extract helps to instantly boost circulation and this is why it is used in our Body Makeover Skin Firming Body Gel and Cellulite Treatment.
The improved circulation causes more blood and lymph to flow to the outer dermis layer, which is often starved when fat cells protrude past the skin surface.
Gotu Kola is something of a ‘super’ ingredient when it comes to fighting cellulite.
First and foremost, it improves the flexibility of the connective tissue, which improves the skin tone and firmness.
The process of hardening of connective tissue cells beneath the skin surface is slowed down by topical application of Gotu Kola.
Caffeine is used in many cellulite products. We use it in our Body Makeover Skin Firming Body Gel & Cellulite Treatment for its short-term effects of reducing the appearance of cellulite.
Caffeine increases circulation and reduces water retention, which can give the desired effect of smoothing out areas prone to cellulite.
However, in our Body Makeover gel it is the other 5 active ingredients that offer long-term results. The caffeine is useful in seeing quick improvements but on its own, it would not deliver strong enough lasting results.
Vitamin E is an antioxidant that protects and repairs the skin. Skin dryness, wrinkles and fine lines are caused by free radical particles and Vitamin E protects your skin from them with great success.
We use it in our Clarity Skin Clearing Spot Gel as it is also very effective at gently exfoliating the skin and fading away marks that have been left by spots and acne-prone skin. It also has anti-inflammatory properties so it can help with the speed of healing spots and breakouts.
The combination of Vitamin E along with Vitamin B3 and Vitamin D5 offer an excellent environment for the healing of spots and acne-prone skin.
Arnica is particularly well-renowned as a super ingredient in skincare. It helps in many different ways, which is why we use it in both our Nature’s Miracle Soothing Leg & Varicose Vein Treatment and our Skin Rehab Scar Minimising Cream.
It is a key ingredient in our battle against sore legs and veins, since Arnica is remarkably soothing and also works to reduce swelling in the surrounding area. When massaged and applied to swollen and sore areas, Arnica goes to work quickly and effectively.
Similarly, it is used to treat bruised and burned skin as it helps to soothe the affected areas as well as swelling and discoloration. These qualities are why arnica is one of five active ingredients used in our Skin Rehab Scar Minimising Cream.
As food, Avocado’s are not only delicious, but they are extremely good for you. They provide the body with high amounts of Vitamin K, C, B5, B6 and E as well as potassium. They’re also loaded with ‘heart-healthy’ monounsaturated fatty acids (oleic acid).
But why do we put Avocado oil into our skincare products and how does it help with Dry Skin conditions such as Eczema & Psoriasis?
Well, let’s take a look…
- Moisturising qualities – Avocado’s uniquely rich texture has a number of benefits when it comes to dry and dull skin. Vitamins A and E are present in Avocado extracts and help enormously with adding moisture to the skin. Both vitamins are packed with anti-oxidants and help repair damaged skin.
- Anti-Ageing qualities – As mentioned above, avocado extracts contain Vitamin A, which is a form of retinol. Retinol plays an important role in the appearance of our skin as it encourages new cell growth and collagen production. The more collagen produced, the less fine lines and wrinkles are visible.
In addition to this, the naturally occurring antioxidants offer protection against free radicals that can attack otherwise healthy skin cells leading to pigmentation of the skin. While it isn’t enough to use as a sunscreen on its own, it offers a boost of additional protection.
Here at Cloud 9 Skin Solutions, we currently include Avocado in our Tranquility Ultra Soothing Cream for Dry Damaged Skin and Good Night Deep Nourishing Sleep Mask to help battle dry and damaged skin symptoms such as those caused by conditions such as Psoriasis, Eczema and other forms of Dermatitis.
Also known as Niacinamide, vitamin B3 has many positive benefits for the skin but in particular it is well known for being fantastic against existing breakouts and preventing future breakouts as well as reducing pigmentation and dark spots on the skin caused by sun damage.
Vitamin B3 is known to be extremely effective against reducing inflamed areas of skin such as those caused by blemishes, spots and acne-prone areas. It brings down the swelling and redness of the surrounding area.
For those who are prone to breakouts and acne, Vitamin B3 can not only reduce visibility and swelling of existing spots but it is also excellent for preventing further breakouts due to reducing the oily sebum production.
Finally, Vitamin B3 is also a mild exfoliator so it helps to rid the skin of dead skin cells, making way for healthy new skin to develop. Especially if it is coupled with other active ingredients that encourage healthy skin growth such as in our Clarity Skin Clearing Spot Gel.
Dry Onion Bulb Extract
Alium Cepa, or Dry Onion Bulb Extract as it is known, dates back centuries for it’s use in treating wounds.
What makes it so special? This lies with the flavonoids that it contains, they combine to make it an ideal ingredient to include in our Skin Rehab Scar Minimising Cream.
Dry Onion Bulb has anti-bacterial qualities, helping stave off bacterial infections, which is ideal for any healing wounds or breakouts. This is thanks to the flavonoid Quercetin that it contains. It also contains Kaempferol, which can help encourage stable cell reproduction and thus helping avoid certain types of scars from forming.
Yarrow provides one of the earliest indications of human’s use of medicinal plants. The myth that Achilles was given the extract to heal the wounds of his soldier, hence the latin name Achillea Milefolium.
Why is it so helpful? Well, firstly it restricts the bleeding from wounds. This aspect makes it particularly helping in treating wounds, which is why we include it in our Skin Rehab Scar Minimising Cream.
But that’s not all! Another excellent characteristic of this extract is that it has antimicrobial qualities; this means that for healing wounds, it helps protect them from infection and help stop microorganisms from reproducing. Finally, it has pain-relieving qualities too, so all in all, it’s a pretty marvellous extract that our ancestors discovered for us.
Calendula flowers are well renowned for their potent healing properties.
Calendula can be consumed in food, tea or as a topical cream. We use it in our Skin Rehab Scar Minimising Cream in a unique blend with four other healing active ingredients.
When applied topically, calendula is highly effective against fungal infections, insect bites and wounds due to its naturally antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.
One of our favourite Active Ingredients is Allantoin. We like it so much because of what a great job it does for healing skin.
So much so, that we include it in our Clarity Skin Clearing Spot Gel and our Skin Rehab Scar Minimising Cream.
It is an extract from the comfrey plant and is an extremely calming ingredient that works very well to heal the skin and stimulate the growth of healthy tissue.
So whether you’re recovering from acne-prone breakouts or a wound, allantoin will help to speed up the recovery process.
Chamomile is often associated with soothing and calming effects on our bodies. In our Clarity Skin Clearing Spot Gel, we use it for that very reason. Out of the five active ingredients, chamomile’s role is to calm any irritation caused by spots and acne-prone areas.
People suffering from spots often worry most about the aesthetic side of having imperfect skin. However as anyone who suffers regularly from breakouts will know all too well, that it’s also very painful!
The chamomile extract is there to relieve that soreness and allow the other active ingredients to work on the inflammation and recovery of the area.
